The website I chose to examine is my old elementary school's page. They have a separate page for each grade level which contains contact information, a weekly or monthly newsletter, and any other information that the teachers found important to include. Some of the newsletters were more looking at the year as a whole with some specific information for the current month and others are strictly updated weekly. I found it interesting that the teachers do not have their own individual pages but rather they work as a team to produce a newsletter for the entire grade. I think this has both pros and cons because it allows all of the students to be on the same level across the grade but it also does not allow for flexibility should a teacher feel that their students need more time on a certain subject. However, the teachers might have their own individual newsletter and I just do not have access to it. link to school website

I think I will use technology very often in my teaching career. I can envision myself using Pinterest and Instagram to get inspiration for lessons, games, class decorations, etc. I will use these because it allows me to see what other teachers have used that work for their students and it also could help me create my own ideas based on their work. I also envision myself using Canva to design posters for my classroom, slideshows, and other graphic art related things. I love Canva because it has so many different templates and elements you can use to create what you want and it makes designing things less time consuming and less difficult.

Overall, I enjoyed Assignment 2. I liked using Canvas to create a page for our evaluation because it allowed me to see how our professors create theirs but also gave me experience working with it should my school use it in the future when I am a teacher. The only issue I had with the tool is that it only allowed one person to work on a page at once so it was a little bit more work to put information in there. We would put all the information in a Google Doc and then transfer it over so that no one did the same thing or accidentally mess with something someone else did. Obviously, this is a reasonably easy solution to that issue with the tool, so I think it is a great one to use as a whole.

I was in 8th grade when Covid hit, so I spent the rest of the year online like everyone else. I had to use Zoom and Canvas to attend class and get work done. I think Zoom is effective because it allows the speaker to screenshare and teach in a kind of face-to-face manner. However, it is very easy for students to get distracted or not pay attention to the speaker because they can turn off their camera and do what they want. Canvas is also a great way to assign work and keep track of grades but it was very challenging for me to learn strictly through instructions on Canvas because sometimes they are unclear or not very detailed.  An open educational resource is one that anyone can use and typically can be shared or edited. I truly never thought that blogging would be something that I enjoy because I hate writing and I consider it one of my weaknesses. However, I have enjoyed blogging for this class. I think it is a great way to reflect on the week and what I learned. It also allows me to go back and see my growth from the beginning of the semester to where I am now. Because of this, I think that blogging will be something that I do once I am a teacher so that I can sit down at the end of each week and reflect. This will help immensely with the mental health aspect of teaching but I also may be able to reach other teachers as well who might need to get some advice or see that someone is dealing with similar obstacles that they are.  I tried to use Generative AI to create a meme that showed a student procrastinating and waking up from a long nap to realize their assignment is due in an hour. Prior to this assignment, I had never used Powerpoint to make a game like Jeopardy. It was very tedious and took me about three hours to complete which was frustrating at times, but I still did enjoy it. In the future, I could make things easier by creating a slide that has the buttons on it and then duplicating it, so I do not have to go into each individual slide and add the navigation buttons. I think it will be a great resource to use in my classroom in the future to pair learning with fun. I learned how to use the navigation buttons and how to disable linear navigation. I had always wondered how my teachers made Jeopardy games for quiz review, and now I know how! I think data collection tools can be utilized in many different ways in the classroom. I plan to be a kindergarten teacher, thus I can imagine myself using surveys at the beginning of the year to get to know my students and parents.
