I truly never thought that blogging would be something that I enjoy because I hate writing and I consider it one of my weaknesses. However, I have enjoyed blogging for this class. I think it is a great way to reflect on the week and what I learned. It also allows me to go back and see my growth from the beginning of the semester to where I am now. Because of this, I think that blogging will be something that I do once I am a teacher so that I can sit down at the end of each week and reflect. This will help immensely with the mental health aspect of teaching but I also may be able to reach other teachers as well who might need to get some advice or see that someone is dealing with similar obstacles that they are.
I tried to use Generative AI to create a meme that showed a student procrastinating and waking up from a long nap to realize their assignment is due in an hour. I had a lot of trouble using the Generative AI to create this. It was difficult to create the perfect prompt to get AI to make what I wanted it to. I also think this is due to the tool that I used, since the original Canva one did not work. I used a cinematic Generative AI, so it made things very realistic but also very movie-like and it just was not conveying the message I wanted it to. Next time, I would ensure that I have enough time to use a kind of trial-and-error approach to making the prompt. It takes a while to figure out exactly what the AI needs to create what I want. Also, I might try to use a different type of Generative AI instead of the one on Canva because it was limited in what it could do and it only gave me ten tries.
I think Generative AI will be very useful in my career because it creates good lesson plans and can provide me with resources. When we did the lesson plan activity in class, I was surprised by how well AI created the plan and that I could actually envision myself using it in my classroom. I do not think that my students will use much AI because I plan on teaching kindergarten and usually they are too young to use most technology for educational purposes. However, I do believe that over the next couple of years that might change as technology and AI advances and the use becomes more widespread. As for addressing ethical concerns, this is obviously tricky because like I said, I do not envision my students using it much, but I would ensure that my students knew how to use it properly and safely. I would educate them about the dangers of using AI in an academically dishonest way but also about how to protect their privacy rights.
