I am really excited about this class. I already have had so much fun getting to design a welcome sign for my future class. I hope that in this class I will learn more about how to use technology for educational purposes. Although I use technology quite frequently, I do have some areas that need some more work. One of my weaknesses in technology is Excel because I never really had to use it until now. I know that it will be very beneficial for me to learn how to use this technology so I look forward to when we start learning it in this class. All of the things I will learn in this class will help me prepare lessons/lesson plans, games, decorations for my classroom, and so much more. I know my future self will thank me for taking this class.

I have been fortunate to have been using laptops in school since the fourth grade. I have used Canvas as well since then and it has helped me greatly in college already. Additionally, I use Canva, Powerpoint, Google Slides, and Google Docs frequently, so I feel relatively confident in those. I used Canva and Powerpoint for presentations throughout elementary, middle school, and high school. I use Google Docs every day in college but I did use Microsoft Word in high school for writing assignments.

My current personal learning network consists of six things: my church, teachers, Instagram, Freshman Interest Group, Pinterest, and Special Olympics. Church is important to me because it is where I have a community that I can rely on and go to when I need people to talk to about anything. Similarly, my Freshman Interest Group allowed me to have the same classes with five other girls and be taught by a student mentor. All of the people I met through the FIG are people I can reach out to and relate with as we have similar academic interests and goals. All the teachers I have had before and in the future are  important resources for me as I want to be a teacher. They will help me attain my academic goals by pushing me and giving me advice. Special Olympics is one of my favorite involvements because I get to combine my hobby of playing sports with giving individuals with special needs opportunities they do not usually get. Finally, Instagram and Pinterest allow me to connect with other aspiring teachers and current ones, this will help me create things for my classroom in the future.

  2. Hi Eden! I love how passionate you are about preparing for your future classroom, it’s so exciting that you’ve already designed a welcome sign! It’s great that you’re looking forward to improving your Excel skills too; I’m sure that will be super helpful for lesson planning and organizing. Your personal learning network sounds really strong, especially with the mix of church, teachers, and things like Pinterest for creative inspiration.

I was in 8th grade when Covid hit, so I spent the rest of the year online like everyone else. I had to use Zoom and Canvas to attend class and get work done. I think Zoom is effective because it allows the speaker to screenshare and teach in a kind of face-to-face manner. However, it is very easy for students to get distracted or not pay attention to the speaker because they can turn off their camera and do what they want. Canvas is also a great way to assign work and keep track of grades but it was very challenging for me to learn strictly through instructions on Canvas because sometimes they are unclear or not very detailed.  An open educational resource is one that anyone can use and typically can be shared or edited. I found an article on OER on the  FSU Libraries  website. It explains that there are "5 R" permissions associated with OER: retain, reuse, revise, remix, and redistribute. The website says that OER are extremely helpful to college students because it can ...

I truly never thought that blogging would be something that I enjoy because I hate writing and I consider it one of my weaknesses. However, I have enjoyed blogging for this class. I think it is a great way to reflect on the week and what I learned. It also allows me to go back and see my growth from the beginning of the semester to where I am now. Because of this, I think that blogging will be something that I do once I am a teacher so that I can sit down at the end of each week and reflect. This will help immensely with the mental health aspect of teaching but I also may be able to reach other teachers as well who might need to get some advice or see that someone is dealing with similar obstacles that they are.  I tried to use Generative AI to create a meme that showed a student procrastinating and waking up from a long nap to realize their assignment is due in an hour. I had a lot of trouble using the Generative AI to create this. It was difficult to create the perfect prompt to ...

Prior to this assignment, I had never used Powerpoint to make a game like Jeopardy. It was very tedious and took me about three hours to complete which was frustrating at times, but I still did enjoy it. In the future, I could make things easier by creating a slide that has the buttons on it and then duplicating it, so I do not have to go into each individual slide and add the navigation buttons. I think it will be a great resource to use in my classroom in the future to pair learning with fun. I learned how to use the navigation buttons and how to disable linear navigation. I had always wondered how my teachers made Jeopardy games for quiz review, and now I know how! I think data collection tools can be utilized in many different ways in the classroom. I plan to be a kindergarten teacher, thus I can imagine myself using surveys at the beginning of the year to get to know my students and parents. I could ask them questions about their preferences, how they feel about certain subjec...
